A Garden Of Flowing Levels
This was definitely a challenging site; a large old swimming pool very much past its best to be removed. Levels that did not work, nor flow and an awful lot of unsafe decking to be removed too. Changes to the house being made by my clients and new owners, would mean the external flow around the property was even more crucial. My clients hoped for a space they could relax in and entertain family and friends that would be much easier to care for and navigate, and a modern look to match and compliment the refurbished house.
Survey day, the very old huge pool and decking areas. This was the area to have building changes; those high windows becoming patio doors so linking the levels was important. Decking in a poor and unsafe state had to go. Seeing the decking side makes it clear how the levels changed across the garden. The pool removed by a specialist firm, works now fully under way to create new tiered levels. Concrete blockwork walls would be clad with stacked stone effect cladding. This new side area can now flow around to the rear patio which you previously could not do. Porcelain paving and detail areas in setts bring it all together. As soon as grass is added the whole garden is lifted and softened. Habitat Landscapes drone photo really shows how the upper patio area now flows around the house. Another overhead shot from the drone. The clients chose beautiful furniture which compliments the landscaping perfectly. The planting still young but already shows how it softens the new side area; now with its new glass screens and furniture. The raised beds will fill in within a year. Lighting makes all new gardens extra special, and especially this garden. Bringing the planting and level changes to life at night. Lighting steps like this means they can be safely navigated no matter what time of day or night. The planting is filling in nicely in these autumn shots. More autumn night time shots show how the trees have impact. These will get even better as they grow. A night time view across the garden shows the lit up water feature in the lower garden.
