A Contemporary Water Rill Garden
A lovely old farm building conversion having a new very contemporary extension; this meant the garden would be affected and need redesigning too. The clients asked for something with the wow factor that would enhance their new home.
The garden on survey day. The building extension would change the layout considerably. The garden is a really nice size, full of potential. The new tiered water feature - it is going to have strip LED lighting. The old and new part of the house work really well together. It was a very hot days on site at times. We are using the old walling to tie in with the new landscaping. The upper garden will be fairly simple and soft to allow a route to the end and side gate. The paving is pretty much complete in the lower garden now. The bottom area starting to really come together; the upper area cleared and the new path going in. The water feature is ready for completion. Looking forward to seeing the final result... The upper garden area going in with its simple arches. Planting day! Doesn't grass make a difference too... The plants in the foreground will be a beech hedge that grows to connect the two arches. Clive hard at work planting... Ali bringing some greenery to the seating area...the actual seat is in cedar. Massive thank you to Craig Nester of Habitat Landscapes, for taking my initial idea and adding his own unique interpretation to it; even lovelier is the fact that name engraved on the feature means something to our clients! It does get her seal of approval I think! What a great picture, thank you Craig Nester and Mr and Mrs Plume! The completed garden; lighting was key to this design. A picture looking down on the lower patio, shows how the pebble and lit water rill leads the eye. In time the beech hedge will create two separate upper garden areas to focus the view lines. Under lighting the seating makes them feel like they float; the water rill has the led strip in it to enhance this view line too. A return visit this year and all the planting is doing really well. The planting in the raised planter behind the fitted seat is also doing well. Planting brings softness to all areas.
